xp_ora2ms_exec2 missing in master

Hi, All:

I am using SSMA for oracle to move oracle database onto sql server.

I find that three extended stored procedures (dbo.xp_ora2ms_exec2,  dbo.xp_ora2ms_exec2_ex and xp_ora2ms_versioninfo2) in master database are missing.

Where are source codes for the three missing stored procedures? If there is no source code available, how do I re-create them manually?

Regards,

Thanks a lot!

Move system DB's from 2005 to 2012

Hi All,

Looking for some advice please. Client is looking to migrate from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012. SQL 2005 is currently installed on Windows Server 2003 so SQL 2012 will need to be installed on a server with an updated OS I.E. Server 2008 R2. From what I gather the master database contains information such as SQL logins, user database file locations etc. Once I install SQL 2012 am I best just to detach the DB's from 2005, attach within 2012 and manually recreate logins on the new instance or can I move the master database to 2012 too? I suspect moving the master DB to a different SQL server is not recommneded or possible?

Thanks

SSMA for Oracle - Float datatype migration giving OCI-22053 Overflow error

I am SSMA for Oracle to migrate data from Oracle to SQLServer 2012

While Migrating Oracle table with Float(126) datatype, SSMA shows the Target database(SQLServer) datatype conversion as Float(53), since SQLServer will allow maximum of 53 precision under float. Beacuse of this i am getting OCI-22053 OVERFLOW ERROR and table is not migrated fully.

I tried to manually change the SSMA Type mapping but this didnt work. Can anyone please suggest some other method to migrate Oracle float(126) data to SQLServer.

Thanks!

I tried running SSMA for Access V 5.2 to migrate an Access 97 database to SQL Azure. The Access Metadata Explorer does not list any tables in the selected database and returns the error

Access Object Collector error: Database
Cannot open a database created with a previous version of your application.
An error occurred while loading database information.

No tables are migrated

The Access database is fine. I am using a copy of a database that we use in an application.

moving certificate and symmetric keys between servers

We migrated our databases to a new server (both are Win 2008 R2). I backup previous databases,  restore on the new server with full recovery mode.  While clients' emails and password are failed to decrypt, they got error message as follows.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14' Cannot find the symmetric key 'Generickey', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.

I check databases in the new machine and database master key, certificate as well as symmetric keys are there . Do I need drop those in the new server, backup and restore those them? Or I need recreate them? or I need backup, restore the service master key.

In OLD database, I created those as follows.

Use dbname
GO
GO
CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION
BY PASSWORD = 'HRpassword'
GO

CREATE CERTIFICATE EncryptCert
WITH SUBJECT = 'General certificate', EXPIRY_DATE = '12/11/2020'
Go

CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY Generickey
WITH ALGORITHM = TRIPLE_DES ENCRYPTION
BY CERTIFICATE EncryptCert
GO

In NEW database, I tried

OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION
BY PASSWORD = 'HRpassword'

It is executed successfully.

Hi All,

I am working in client network where I have installed SQL server 2008. I am able to see other network servers through SSMS but not the one installed by my team member. (The server available by default during the machine build is available but any new installation is invisible).

Its vice versa in other machines, they can see other network server but not mine. :(

I have enabled TCP/IP, port number 1433,remote connections and also changed the firewall settings. Still no luck. kindyy help.

Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) - Missing Drivers

$

We have a very old set of Sybase databases (version 11.9.2) that we’re planning to convert to SQL Server 2008. I’ve therefore downloaded the Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Sybase, but it is unable to find the Sybase drivers. Within the SSMA, when I attempt to connect to the Sybase server via ODBC, I get this message: “Unable to find specified provider. Sybase Data Access Connectivity libraries were not found on the machine. You can install them from Sybase product media or download it from Sybase web site”.

If I try to connect using OLEDB, I simply get “Cannot connect to data source”.

Trying to use ADO.Net gives me “Unable to find ADO.Net Provider files ‘Sybase.AdoNet2.AseClient.dll’ or ‘Sybase.Data.AseClient.dll’.You can install them from Sybase product media or download it from Sybase web site.

The problem is that I do have the full Sybase client tools installed (I have both Sybase Central and SQL Advantage), so I would have expected the connection to work. In addition, I use Visual Studio 2010 and am able to connect to Sybase easily using the System.Data.Common.DbProviderFactory classes.

I’ve tried looking on the Sybase website but can’t find any relevant drivers anywhere – they don’t seem to be specifically listed. Does anyone know exactly what I would need to download or install in order to get this working? I’m using an old XP machine (one of the reasons I’m keen on this conversion is so that we can fully move up to Windows 7/8).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

From SQL server 2008 R2 to SQL server 2012

Hi,

Description of my problem:

I need to connect to database which is created on my PC (asp.net WebApp, sql express 2008 R2). On my PC I can do it from localhost (in VS 2010), from ISS like deployed WebApp, from SQL Management Studio.

But when I transfer deployment package and instal the WebApp to another PC a can run this app but I cannot connect database JUST FROM BROWSER (from this second PC ) !!! When I do it from SQL Management Studio (from this second PC) it works.

So lets complete it:

  • I can connect from developer´s PC from VS, SQL Management Studion - windows authentication and sql server authentication
  • I can connect from developer´s browser like webapp hosted on developer´s PC
  • I can connect from not developer´s PC from SQL Management Studion (database is transfered/copied to this PC ) - windows authentication and sql server authentication
  • cannot connect from not developer´s browser like webapp hosted on this not developer´s PC

Tell me why ?? I am lost....

On the not developer´s PC is intaled SQL server 2012 (not express) and on the developer´s PC is instaled SQL server 2008 R2 (express).

I have tried to modify and change my connection string - nothing helps.

It gives me this error:

Cannot open database "mydatabase"  requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user "myuser".

I googled a lot and there are a lot of threads with this problem but nothing helps....

I think that problem is somewhere in settings of IIS, so I am opened to all ideas !!!

I can share more info if it will be necessary...

SQL Server 2012 Migration Advice

I am planning a migration from clustered physical instances of SQL Sever 2000 on Windows 2003 to clustered virtual instances of SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2008R2.  I know that this presents some challenges and intermediate steps with compatibility levels, etc.

I would like advice on a migration path and how to keep data synchronized between the Sql Server 2000 and 2012 instances during the migration and application switch over period.  We have merge replication in place between our PROD and DR OLTP systems and transactional replication in place from our OLTP to OLAP systems.  The only option that I know of is to use SSIS packages to pipe data to the Sql Server 2012 instances until the point in time that we redirect our applications to the new instances.  Thanks in advance.

time field without seconds raises an error

Hello,

I am working on the migration of our Access database (MS Access 2000) to SQL Server 2012 database. (using SQL Server 2012 Express Edition)

The sqlServer tables are linked tables in our project.

To connect the database I use the following connection string:

    sA = "ODBC;DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=(localdb)\instance11;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=SSMA;DATABASE=BaseNameV13"

When I insert a time value in TIME(0) field of SQL Server without second precision (which means only with hour and minutes) the insert is rejected.

Set tb = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("select * from Table1", dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)

tb.AddNew

tb![Heure] = "10:12"    '====> error (only hour and minute without second)

tb.update

Note that if I write the time with seceonds it work

tb![Heure] = "10:12:00"

Is it a known issue? Is there any way of making the conversion work without changing all the places we use Time Field in our existing code?

Thank you very much.

Best way to move databases to new drive - Detach or Offline??

$

I know this question is all over, but I get mixed results - some say the best way is to detach, other's say to bring the databases offline after moving the location of the files with TSQL..

I have a database server in which it was set up with about 7 different databases (Citrix, an small Sharepoint, some other software)....my question is, what is the best way to move the database to a different drive? Users cannot be connected executing statements, so how does SQL server handle that? Do I have to do something special or will SQL allow them to finish their transactions and then kick them?

What is the benefit versus the other? If I do detach, will that mess up the DB such as citrix from functioning because it isn't registered with the server briefly and then re-registered? Just need some guidance on the best way - I know how to do each way..

Thanks!
