Hi,

I had been trying to download the SSMA for Oracle for the last 90mins but when I click on the Download button, chose the file I need to download, I got to the "thank you for downloading...." page, but I get nothing.  I "Click Here" link after 1 minute when I don't see anything happen.....and that does not do anything either.

No file and no error message.

Is where somewhere else that I can get this ?

Thanks.

SSMA fails to migrate all rows from Oracle

I have 53 tables I need to load from Oracle into SQL Server as part of a migration to a new system.  All but three of the tables load perfectly.  Three tables load approximately 95% of the rows.  The problem tables have between 300,000 and 1,300,000 rows.  Oddly some of the tables that migrate successfully have more than 10,000,000 rows.  Does anyone have any recommendations on what to check to determine why these tables are failing to load?

Any help would be appreciated.

SSMA for Oracle v6 install issue

$

Hi – I am trying to install and use the SSMA for Oracle v6.

Server is Windows 2012, SQL 2012

Two issues

  1. Installer says Oracle client is not present. It is installed, version 11.1.  It successfully connects to the Oracle instance
  2. I installed anyway thinking I could resolve that later (based on the screen that said it could be installed later).  When trying to run the SSMA Script Installer it fails immediately.  The Just In Time debugger says “Unhandled Exception (‘System.IO.FileLoadException’) occurred in SSMA Script Installer.exe [256]’

I tried uninstalling to start fresh, but it will not uninstall.  I’ve rebooted the server.

I can’t proceed.  There are no logs that I have been able to find.

SQL Server 2005 - Moving from Svr2003 to svr2008

Hello,

I've just built a 2008 Server and installed SQL Server 2005 on it. This server will act as a replacement for a 2003 server which is of course going end of life.

I've been reading and following (and trying) tech net articles left, right and centre but am really struggling with this:  I want to backup, move  or migrate my databases from the old 2003 server on to my 2008 server. Does anyone have a definitive guide for achieve this? I've backed up and tried to restore with this error being the result:

Variables to aid in people's thinking:

  • old server hostname 'Milhouse'
  • New server hostname: 'Delta'
  • Old server 2003
  • New Server 2008
  • Files from old server are sitting in same directory on the new server, that being: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2005\MSSQL.1\Data

It's been a long day. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance

Mike

SQL 2005 backward compatibility SQL 2014?

If restoring backups of SQL 2005 DBs onto a SQL 2014 can they be kept in v9.0 and should still work & run?

If not do I need to run SQL 2014 Upgrade Advisor & if yes does this have a performance impact?

Thanks in advance.

Migrate/upgrade SQL Server 2008 cluster to SQL Server 2014 cluster?

$

Hello recently I completed installing a SQL 2008 cluster 64 bit EE (Active-Passive) on Windows 2008 r2 64 bit EE which current has zero user DBs on there in being a fresh install. We recently acquired SQL 2014 64 EE installation (licenses) and would like to have this DB cluster to become SQL 2014 cluster (Active-Passive). What is the recommended way in doing this...in place upgrade on Passive node first, fail-over, & then upgrade other node...or uninstall SQL 2008 on both nodes completely & then install SQL 2014 cluster?

Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 2014 Upgrade Advisor error message: NO SQL Server instance installed on target computer.

Hello I just installed SQL 2014 Upgrade Advisor which seems to work on one of my SQL 2008 stand alone machines. But when trying to point to a SQL 2008 cluster machine I get the following error:

NO SQL Server instance installed on target computer.

I am sure I'm putting in the correct instance name which is the default MSSQLSERVER. Anything I'm missing?

Thanks in advance.

How to Restore from sql Maintenance plan backup

I have a SQl 2005 Instance in my PROD SQL server. I have been given a task to migrate databases inside that instance to different SQL box ( SQl 2008 r2 in Win 2008 r2 box) Database. Current sql instance have maintenance plan set up which backs up 8 different database every night under single .bak file.

Now how do I take that bak file and restore it into new SQl 2008 r2 instance. I have tried using SSMS in Sql 2008 r2 and set the restore from option to device and point it to that .bak file but what should I target restore to since I have multiple databases restored in this new instance.

What is the best approach to migrate all databases in single shot to next instance without doing one at a time. Please advise..

SQL Server Replay Trace Question

Hello,

I am been trying to do a replay trace to get some performance statistics for a migration. We are going from a physical server to VM and the application team is concerned about the performance.

Question:

I ran the replay trace to capture the events on the current prod server . After capturing the data I loaded into a table and I get a column Duration which tells me how much time the particular query ran. I loaded the trace into a table and the Unit for Duration column is changed to Microseconds.

Now I replayed the trace on the new server where we are migrating to and trace did run fine. I loaded the info into a table so that I can query . and there is a column called Execution time .

Question I have is, is the Duration  and ExecutionTime in the replay trace means the same ?

Thanks,

in-place upgrade to SQL Server 2014

Did an in-place upgrade to SQL Server 2014 from SQL Server 2008R2 SP3. Upgrade was successful, no issues detected. However, it did not replace Server 2008R2, both SQL Server Versions are there.

Would it be OK to uninstall SQL Server 2008R2? Or, What would happen if both runs in same server?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

SSMA convert schema screen freeze

$

Hello,

I have SSMA 6.0 installed to convert Oracle12 to SQL2014Sp1.  I'm at the "Convert Schema" step for only one Oracle sp (Just want to get comfortable with this before doing all the SPs) and the screen had been frozen for the last 3+ hours.

I Created Report for the sp_ora (it reported 28 warnings about NUMBER to FLOAT(52) - acceptable)

2.  I then ran Convert Schema..... the Output screen at the bottom said "Conversion finished with 2 errors, 28 warnings, and 37 information messages"

The c:\users\....report\mainindex.html screen pop up for this SP....and this is where the whole screen freeze.  I can't close the html screen.  I click every where on my PC screen and nothing happened.  The Task manager report SSMA running at 0% CPU.  The only way for me to exit this is kill the SSMA process via Task Manager, and I don't think this is the way to exit the process ?

Help.

Thank you
