Copy Database Failed

I'm trying to copy a database and my attempts are failing. When I look at the event log, I see the following error:

INSERT failed because the following SET options have incorrect settings: 'ANSI_PADDING'

**EDIT**

I had to change the collation on the database a while back. Could that have something to do with it?

Here is the entire error output:

What's involved with switching an SQL server to a new domain? Holds Citrix XenDesktop database

$

We had built out a new domain, and joined an SQL server to it, then created a Citrix XenDesktop database on it.

A decision was made to abandon this new domain, so I must join this server to the old, existing domain.  Of course, joining the Windows server itself to a new domain is straightforward, but how that affects SQL or databases on it I have no idea.

Of course I will check with Citrix on any vendor-specific steps, but I expect they'll tell me to call Microsoft.  I assume most things will need done on the SQL server itself.  I've never done this before so would need a very detailed step-by-step walkthrough on it.  XenDesktop environment is virtual machines, so doing this properly is *very* critical.

All I can find from Microsoft is this weird article, which to me doesn't seem to give a step by step how-to:

Hello,

I haven't used SQL or SQL server in three years.

I have been charged to do the migration of a 2008 SQL Server database to 2012 SQL Server.

In addition minor changes must be made to the 2008 database such as: column name changes, zip code format changes, and date and time format changes.

How would you go about doing this, please be specific.

Thanks Mike

SQL Server Licensing

Hello,

I have developed an app that uses Access as database. I am thinking of migrating the database to SQL Server (Access is causing all sorts of problems).

The application uses a database installed on a server and can be used by multiple users(multiple PCs).

I intend to sell the application and i have some questions regarding the SQL Server Licensing.

1) Do I need to buy licenses for every client i sell the app to, or do they need to buy the license.

2) Do I need to buy a license for every user that uses the database.

How does this work?

I need to know this before i start the migration process.

Thank you

In place cluster DB migration along with windows 2003 OS to Windows2008R2

Hi,

I have got an requirement to find feasibility of doing an in-place migration of the SQL 2005 databases currently configured as an Cluster SQL instance on Windows 2003 OS.

The OS cluster is going to be upgraded from windows 2003 to windows 2008 R2 and requirment is to have the SQL2005 cluster instance upgraded in place  to 2008 R2.

How different is this to be done in contrast to standalone where we do with normal 2008R2 setup file. Should we use the setup file on all the 3 windows 2003 servers and for cluster instance upgradation do we have different options to be selected.

I have 2 instance of SQL 2005 currently running on the 3 windows 2003 servers as below

26.abc.com

27.abc.com

28.abc.com

As well what are the precautions to be taken, i have read that an inplace migration is not best practice as if it goes wrong we will have uninstall, clean up and rebuild the whole instance from backups and scripts.

Move SQL server Standard 2008R2 from one domain to another

Task: I need to move a mission critical work station, hosting a SQL Server Standard 2008R2 based application, from one domain to another.

The domain server (MS Server 2008R2, Standard) to which the work station is presently connected to, needs to be replaced. To keep our network up running we installed another domain server and moved the network step by step to that new domain server.

The last step will be to move the SQL server database and application to the new domain. I am aware that this is not a trivial task and would like to get some feedback what I need to do to complete the task successfully. It is a single standing SQL Server installation, no clustering, no replication. Authentication is windows based.

I am grateful for any feedback. Thank you.

Greeting!

I have 2 server:

Server 1

Server 2(Local)

I had created the linked server in my Server2 (linked server- SERVER1). I was attempting to create a query to get the data from the Server1, if Server2 doesn't have the data as Server1 then insert the data into Server2. It was successful execute the data from Server1 but it doesn't insert into Server2 (Local). Please advice me.

Here is my query:

SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY (SERVER1, 'SELECT  EmployeeID, EmployeeName, JoinDate, CAST([XMLContent] AS NVARCHAR(MAX)) FROM dbo.Computer.tblEmployee WHERE JoinDate >= ''2016-02-29''')

IF NOT EXISTS
(SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY ([SERVER2], 'SELECT  EmployeeID, EmployeeName, JoinDate, CAST([XMLContent] FROM dbo.Computer.tblEmployee'))

INSERT INTO Computer.tblEmployee SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY ([SERVER2], 'SELECT  EmployeeID, EmployeeName, JoinDate, CAST([XMLContent] FROM dbo.Computer.tblEmployee')

in-place upgrade to SQL Server 2014

Did an in-place upgrade to SQL Server 2014 from SQL Server 2008R2 SP3. Upgrade was successful, no issues detected. However, it did not replace Server 2008R2, both SQL Server Versions are there.

Would it be OK to uninstall SQL Server 2008R2? Or, What would happen if both runs in same server?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access, reconnecting source from different location as before

$

A while ago I create a SSMA project for migrating several Access-dbs into one SQL-database. All worked great. Since then some time has passed by, but now I need to move forward with my project.

In the meantime my source accessfiles are in a different location: after upgrading to Windows 10, my Userfolder has been renamed, because for some reason Windows thought it would be good to remove one character from my name.

So, my sourcefiles where in C:\users\zakraket\etc but are not in C:\users\zakrake\etc (t missing). Because of this, my project doens't work anymore.

If it where any other directory I could just create that "old" location, but since it's the userdirectory I can't recreate it (not enough rights to userfolder)

I have been searching a long time for the way to reassign/reconnect to the source-databases which have not changed, but  can't find a way to do it from SSMA, I'm sure there must be a way?

Any tips?

SSMA generates TRUNCATE TABLE statements for data migration, want DELETE instead

The SQL Server Migration Assistant generates TRUNCATE TABLE statements for migrating data.   However , TRUNCATE requires ddladmin privs.  Can I change it so it generates DELETE instead? DELETE only needs datawriter privs
